The Lord said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. 1 Kings 19:11-12

Elijah was an audacious man of God who dared to do anything that seemed challenging and tough. He challenged the King, sarcastically called the prophets of Baal for a head on collision on the Mount of Carmel and executed the 450 prophets of Baal after they lost the fire test. The entire life of prophet Elijah is a clear portrayal of raw guts, zeal and extreme audacity which was completely stirred up by the Spirit of God working in Him. But there was a particular point in his life where he went down the graph, experiencing a battle in his mind with struggles of self-pity, rejection, hopelessness and even contemplated on suicide.

The Lord intervenes in a unique way by initiating his treatment with a combination of sleep and food. Later, God encounters him in the mountain and speaks to him which seemed unconventional to Elijah –boisterous, swift, zealous man who caused tremors when he entered the palace and the assembly of men. First, there was a strong wind, an earthquake and a fire but the Lord was not in all these. Elijah was looking for God in all these but God spoke to him in a still small voice – a gentle whisper. The biggest lesson to some of the contemporary Christians today is that Christians are looking for God in the earthquake, wind, fire and shattering of rocks.

Young man/women who is reading this, are you at the same point where Elijah was? Are you struggling with self-pity, depression, hopelessness, rejection and a mind stronghold that is slowly corroding you like a cancer. Are you waiting for a breakthrough and looking for God in a revival meeting, in a prophetic meeting or during the loudest time of worship session. I am not saying that He does not speak during those loud meetings but I want to tell you that at this point of your life, just like how he spoke to Elijah he wants to speak to you in a still small voice—a gentle whisper. Tune your receiver’s frequency to receive the signals of His powerful, majestic, reviving still small voice that can rejuvenate you and propel you to become unstoppable, inspire you to do the impossible and make giant leaps for His glory.

Prayer:

“Here I am Lord. I’ve been fighting this battle within me and I’ve been looking out for you in many places. My God, help me to calm down and to personally encounter your still small voice—that will stir up my spirit to walk along with you”
