In Aviation technology the most primary lesson that a pilot is taught while flying an aircraft is to locate the Horizon in the sky. Even before he gets well versed in handling the flight yoke (steering wheel) or controlling the flight based on other parameters it is mandatory that the pilot must learn to locate the horizon and make the aircraft nose & wings fall in line with it. This is the most basic and vital lesson in aircraft piloting.

Though there are many external and internal factors like weather, temperature, altitude etc., which are to be considered while flying, the identification of horizon is the first lesson which is included in the piloting tutorials.

Well!!! What is a Horizon????

Horizon is the point at which the Earth and the sky meets. It is visible as an Orange line in the sky and the Pilot always keeps a track of this so that the aircraft is in line with the Horizon. The horizon is like a natural compass on the sky for the pilot to take the right air-route to reach the destination. No matter in which direction the aircraft is steered it is essential that the pilot always checks that the aircraft is in line with the Horizon. Let’s make an analogical study of Piloting and Christian life where a Christian must navigate through trials & temptations which are like storms and thunders. Similar to the pilot the Christian’s role is to first locate Jesus and make sure his life is in line with “Jesus–The Horizon” who is the point of contact between God and Humanity. The Bible clearly records that the Mission of Jesus incarnation into this World was to reconcile God and Humanity.

In the book of Hebrews the author instructs the Church to “Fix their thoughts and eyes on Jesus” who is the Author and Finisher of our faith. The analysis of the historical background of the Book of Hebrews reveals that this particular Book was written during the rule of Roman Emperor Nero who subjected the Church to severe torture and persecution. The author did not want the set-apart believers to be shaken from their faith due to the oppression from the Emperor. Therefore he counsels them to stay focused on God and never to be de-focused from His power.

Hebrews 3:1

Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.

Hebrews 12:2

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith

This spiritual technology to stay focused on Jesus has to be learnt by us since we fix our thoughts on the worldly matters and easily get de-focused from God. It is very important that we fix our thoughts and eyes on Jesus.

Remaining de-focused from Christ will ultimately de-capacitate us and lead us to a crash. The best example could be Samson who removed his focus from God and fixed his eyes onto the Worlds affairs which led to his destruction losing all his God given power and might. As believers of God we tend to set our attention on various unimportant issues and forget the basic rule in Spiritual Navigation Technology to make our life fall in line with Jesus.

Let’s get reconciled with God and re-focus our thoughts and eyes onto JESUS.

With all your heart, pray

God I re-dedicate myself on the altar. All the external factors that tries to disturb me I crucify it on the Cross. Help me to set my eyes on Christ Jesus who is the Universal Horizon. Amen!!!
